Our History
The Southwell
Care Project was established in 1999 by a group of parents of
children with learning disabilities. They discovered that they
had common concerns around what would happen to their children
when they, the parents, were no longer able to look after them.
Most of these
children have grown up in and around Southwell, and with no
provision in the community, parents were concerned that their
children would have to move away from the area.
A priority for
the charity is to provide caring support for Adults with
Learning Disabilities in Nottinghamshire, at the appropriate
time, and within the community with which they are familiar and
where much of their support is to be found.
The aims of the
organisation therefore are:-
-
To organise
accommodation for adults with learning disabilities with
caring support whilst encouraging independence appropriate
to each person's needs and aspirations. (Living
Options)
-
To create a
community services programme for adults with learning
disabilities to foster supportive relationships within the
community. (Community Services)
